Panic Mode of Experimentation

Under management pressure to produce rapid results, this is a method often practiced in industry. "Any-Factor-would-do" approach replaces "logic & structure". Control factors at different levels are experimented with, in an attempt to identify a “quick solution”. Everyone beleives in his/her own "magic black book". Existing knowledge is of course of value but may not always be enough to achieve full potential of the process..

Panic mode route may (and just may) produce slight improvements, however, optimisation with respect to quality and cost are almost impossible and reproducibility is very rare. Quick response is the only advantage of this method. At best, it is merely a "pain killer" and does not address the root cause of the problem!
